Totnes, South Devon, England
Parts of our cottage date back 400 years as highlighted by the original Inglenook fireplace with working log burner in the beamed front room. There are 3 good sized double bedrooms and roomy bathroom with both bath and shower. The brightly lit kitchen/diner has French windows which open out onto a private garden ideal for some alfresco dining on a sunny day!
A walk down Bow Road through woods and fields will bring you out at The Waterman’s Arms in Tuckenhay or a little further to The Durant Arms at Ashprington. The Church House Inn at Harberton also offers drink and meal options after a short walk.
There is a lifestyle store and café at the end of our road and a farm shop/café also just a short walk away.
Car parking is just up the road ( a designated parking area) although having a car isn`t necessary here. For regular buses to Totnes (and train station), Kingsbridge and Salcombe, the bus stop is just a 2 minute walk from the house and the brilliant Community shop and Post Office are closer still!
About the location
We live in Harbertonford, which is a friendly village set in the beautiful South Devon countryside. We are a 5 minute car drive/bus ride (or a 45 minute walk!) from the town of Totnes, which is a special place. In fact, we did a house swap there years ago and now we have moved to our village on its outskirts! It has many eateries, bars, a really quirky cinema, thriving independent shops, a bustling market and more crystals than you can shake a stick at.
Totnes has a main line train station with trains running regularly to Plymouth and Exeter (30 mins) and Bristol (90 mins). These provide excellent links to both Exeter and Bristol airports.
Two minutes further on is Dartington Estate with country walks along the River Dart; great for wild swimming, cycling and kayaking (we have equipment which you can use).
The award winning Blackpool Sands beach is a 20 minute drive and well worth the visit; perhaps combined with a trip to scenic Dartmouth - steam railway, river ferry, castle and all!
Nearby is Dartmoor National Park 365 square miles to explore and Tors to climb; accessing via River Dart Country Park which offers family activities, as does the Woodlands Family Theme Park.
In short, there’s loads to see and do!
