Although part of Newcastle and just 15 minutes from the city centre, it is only a few metres from the river Tyne, and is situated on Hadrian's Way, the coast to coast walk and cycle way. It is handy for trips to Newcastle, Northumbria and the coast, being only about 45 mins. drive from Tynemouth, Whitley Bay, Alnmouth, Seahouses, and other coastal villages. Further afield, it is about 1-2 hours drive from the Lake District, the Cheviots, Kielder Forest, Durham and York. Also nearby are the Baltic, the Angel of the North, Durham Cathedral, Holy Island, and lots of other local museums, stately homes and castles, and industrial heritage memorials.
