Tranquil apartment in Basel Old Town
My apartment is on the first floor of a period building in a courtyard square 2 minute's walk from the Marktplatz, the central square of Basel town. The building dates back to the 17th century but was thoroughly modernised 30 years ago with under floor heating, new kitchen, bathroom and separate shower/WC. There is one double bedroom and a second room, used as an office, with a double sofa bed. The large living room opens on one side to a mediaeval street while there is large oriole window on the other side.
About the location
The apartment is in a peaceful upper courtyard above Andreasplatz, a small cobbled square with two cafés which is in the pedestrian area of the old town. The Marktplatz with the historic Rathaus (Town Hall) and the farmer's market is just a few steps further from where it is another 2 minutes walk to the Rhine. From the Marktplatz various tram and bus lines travel to the station, the airport and nearby towns in France and Germany. Basel is a culture centre with major art galleries, theatre with ballet and opera and diverse concerts plus an extremely cool jazz club. The location is perfect for exploring the Jura mountains, the Black Forest and the Alsace.
