About the location
The house is located 2 minutes drive (15 minute walk) from the village of Oughterard and 26 km northwest of the medieval city of Galway (European City of Culture 2020). There is a regular bus service to and from Galway City and Connemara.
Oughterard is the chief angling centre on Lough Corrib (the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland) and is also known as the `Gateway to Connemara` as it is on the border of Connemara in the West of Ireland nestled beside Lough Corrib. There is so much to see and activities to enjoy in Oughterard and it is also the ideal base from which to explore Galway city, the Wild Atlantic Way, Connemara (the largest Irish speaking area in Ireland) and County Mayo.
There is stunning scenery with lots of outdoor activities available including walking routes, cycling routes, mountain biking, lake cruises, playground, fishing, 15th century castle, and Golf (2 mins drive). Oughterard is less than a 1 hour from a number of pristine atlantic coast blue flag beaches, Kylemore Abbey and Connemara National Park. The Arran Islands are a 45 mins journey from the nearby port of Rossaveal.
