About the location

The idyllic Orkney Isles lie to the north of Scotland a scenic hour and a half sail away from Scotland. Our home is on the `mainland" - biggest island, but each and every smaller isle has something unique to offer and are easily accessible by ferry or tiny plane! Orkney has hundreds of ancient monuments, standing stones, tombs etc from Stone Age to Vikings! Bird watching, beach combing, wildlife spotting (seals, whales, puffins), free loch fishing, and discovering traditional crafts and music are what draw people to Orkney year after year. In summer daylight is perpetual, with golf being played at midnight and the light is a photographer and artists/writers dream.

Our home is set by itself, in its own land 2 miles equidistant from nearest villages and beach. Both villages have shops, pubs, and post office. The biggest towns, both harbour towns have each got their own style, Kirkwall its grand Cathedral and many more shops, eating places, and pubs. Stromness quaint winding streets, craft shops and cafes. Scapa Flow, Italian Chapel and Churchill Barriers are all reminders of Orkney`s more recent history.

For peace, solitude, and beautiful landscapes with sea drifting into land into sky, Orkney is the place to be.

Beaches, ancient monuments, fishing lochs, crafts, and endless light in summer, Northern lights/Aurora Borealis, never mind visiting all the smaller islands all with their own unique identity.
