Best of both: 30 minutes to London and countryside on the doorstep - Iver

We live in Iver, a small village in Buckinghamshire and home is a beautiful Georgian house. Built in 1805, it is alleged to be a formal Naval college and was an annex to the vicar’s home next door.

Today, Mulberry House has been lovingly restored. On the ground floor there is a modern kitchen, large dining room and lounge. In winter, the wood stove keeps the place cozy. Upstairs there are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Outside is a south facing patio area with a large garden and a garage. Our home is accessed via an electronic gate and the surrounding brick perimeter walls and foliage make private.

We have an automatic car and might consider lending it as part of the house swap.

IMPORTANT
We have two cats (Freya and Chunky) and would ask you to feed/water them daily. Otherwise they are free to come and go.

Unfortunately our home is not suitable to small children. Those over 10 years old are welcome.

About the location

TRANSPORTATION
Heathrow airport is only 20 minutes away by car or taxi.

Iver station is a 20 minute walk and has four trains per hour to Paddington station at peak times.

You can also arrange for a local minicab to take you to Uxbridge underground station (Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines) for c £6.

We are also very well connected to both the M25, M4 and M40 motorways.

ABOUT IVER
In the Domesday Book of 1086 the whole area was recorded as “Evreham or homestead by the brow of a hill” and it was in the possession of a man called Robert Doiley. In 1351 the area was granted a Royal charter to hold a weekly market. This charter was confirmed 110 years later in 1461.

The village church has shards of a Saxon window, and elements dating from the 15th century, 16th century and 17th century can be seen. The village has numerous houses from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Today, the village high street has a historic pub, modern small supermarket, pharmacy, Costa Coffee and an Indian restaurant.

Under a half hour’s walk from our house are two fantastic pubs. The Red Lion to the west was built in the 16th century and has an open fireplace. Next to the Grand Union Canal, the Malt Shovel is a picturesque pub and, on a good day, you can watch boats as they go through the locks. There are plenty of nice walking routes along the canal.

There is a leisure centre in the village (small gym) and golfers, you’ll be pleased to know that there are two clubs a short drive away.

NEARBY
Windsor and Eton are 20 minutes away by car and London is 17 miles (30km).

There are plenty of places of interest nearby but here are a few of our favourites:

Pinewood Studios - Although there are no tours of the home of James Bond, there is a cinema onsite that is open to the public and there are occasional opportunities to be in the audience of a TV show.

Black Park & Langley Park - Both are spectacular for walking or cycling. Black Park is adjacent to Pinewood Studios and it’s 13 acres (5.3ha) also hosts Go Ape, a tree top rope adventure course and Segway rental. Langley Park offers a stunning view of Windsor Castle and you can walk around the newly refurbished The Langley hotel.

Marlow is a quaint town next to the Thames. Highly recommended booking lunch at The Two Brewers.

History buffs will want to explore Beaconsfield, a town renowned for it’s Georgian architecture. On Tuesdays it hosts a traditional outdoor market from 8am - 3pm. Also nearby is The Royal Standard, England’s oldest freehouse pub.

In the mood to hit the shops? Both nearby Windsor and Uxbridge have a variety of stores. Westfield London shopping mall is an hour by public transportation. Further afield, bargain hunters might want to check out Swindon Designer Outlet.
