Wine country in rural France

This is our holiday home, built in the early 1990s, and updated in the five years we have owned it. It is a comfortable modern house, with rural views, about five minutes walk from the centre of the Bastide town of Duras. It also has a great view of the town walls and the chateau.

It has three bedrooms (although one is used as a study), a modern kitchen. A large L shaped lounge/diner and two bathrooms. Both the bedrooms have king sized beds. It also has a shady terrace and is surrounded by a good sized garden.

It is probably not suitable for small children as the garden is open to the farmers fields beyond.

About the location

The local village has all the services necessary for day to day needs. There are two bakeries, a butcher, a health food store, a supermarket and a newsagent. There are also several restaurants and cafes. In addition, there are many other possibilities in the surrounding towns and villages, including a cinema and a town swimming pool. There are good walks in the local area and bike hire is available locally.

The village market day is Monday, and there are many other local markets in other towns and villages in the area, including night markets in the summer months.

The village is in Lot et Garonne, very close to the borders of the Dordogne and Gironde. This is wine country and the Cote de Duras vineyards are all around. It is also close to Bordeaux, Bergerac, Monbazillac and St. Emilion. The plums for Agen prunes are also grown here.

A slightly longer drive would take you to the Caves of Lascaux, the Archachon Bay or the Spanish border.
