The Turret - Near Bothwell Castle
An apartment in a village 14 minutes from Glasgow.
Ideal for visiting Glasgow or Edinburgh without a car.
Uddingston is only one stop from Glasgow city centre by train (14 minutes) and you can be in Edinburgh in 50 minutes by train.
The Turret is the top floor of what was originally The Royal Hotel, a traditional sandstone building built around 1870.
Although two bedroom, we use one of them as an art studio. So only the master bedroom is available.
The living room, however, has a sofa bed and an extra large sofa that is good to sleep on.
The kitchen is large and also operates as a second public room.
Not surprisingly the Turret is on the top floor as the turret itself is in our living room. The staircase is the original one from when the hotel was built and is quite impressive.
About the location
Uddingston retains much of its village atmosphere despite being so close to Glasgow, making it an ideal base for exploring Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling, even if you don’t have a car as the train station is only a 5 minute walk.
And if you do have a car, Uddingston is situated where all the motorway networks meet. There is plenty of parking available nearby.
A short walk will take you to Bothwell Castle and a very pleasant river walk along the banks of the Clyde.
The village of Uddingston and its neighbour Bothwell, boast many good restaurants and shops. The main supermarket is a 2 minute walk, so you do not need a car to get provisions.
It is possible to get from the airport to the Turret without a car. Take the shuttle bus from Glasgow Airport to Glasgow City Centre and then take the short train to Uddingston Station.
