Sweet spacious cottage

Sunny home 5min walk from the beach and village with all the shops you need. Cafes walkable in both directions from the bottom of this street. Bush and sea views from the lounge and kitchen and many bush walks are available within walking distance.

This cottage, on a quiet dead end street in the village of Eastbourne is on Wellington harbour with Wellington visible in the distance from the lounge window. It is a 30-40 min drive away. The cottage was likely built around 1900 and has been altered over the years with me being the last person to do so. The whole house has been fully modernised with increased insulation and some double glazing in addition. It is cosy in the winter and heated by electricity and a log burner.

There are two double bedrooms one with a super king bed and the other a queen.

I have a sweet cat who is independent with microchipped cat door and biscuits and I have lovely neighbours on both sides who are happy to feed her if you are away for more than a night. They would also be most helpful if you needed help or advice about anything.

I have a tiny home on my property which is sometimes let and only to quiet single people.

A car is not required but it helps to go further afield. I have a hybrid Toyota Aqua which I’m happy to swap.

About the location

Eastbourne has a great community feel with families and older people enjoying the seaside lifestyle and yet not too far from the city. There are many older properties mostly single story. At the bottom of the road you can pick up a bus to the country’s capital of Wellington and a ferry crosses the harbour several times a day to and from the city to the jetty in Days Bay which is about a 10min walk from here. Bush walks are plentiful with many others to be found within the Wellington region and up the Kapiti coast, a 40min drive away.

Lower Hutt is the place to go if you need an intense shopping mall experience and Petone, a 20min drive has a more eclectic feel with an interesting array of shops and cafes.
Wellington has lots to see and do, a short google away you will find details of Te Papa which tells you about NZ and its history and it also holds international exhibitions. The cable car, Te Papa (meaning Our Place in Māori) and the botanical gardens are all walkable from the ferry terminus.

The ferry to Picton on the South Island is also a 30min drive from Eastbourne.

Going north you can drive to the weekend destination for many Wellingtonians, over the Rimutaka hill to the Wairarapa area. You will find lots of outdoor experiences to be had and wine trails galore plus daffodil days and lavender excursions in season! Overnight accommodation is easy to find especially out of school holidays.
