Comfortable cottage, on quiet street close to centre of the ‘Town of Books’.

Our home is a comfortable, charming, end of terrace cottage on quiet road a few minutes from the centre of Hay-on-Wye, known for its numerous bookshops, independent shops, pubs, cafes and beautiful surroundings.

Downstairs is a large, light filled open plan kitchen-diner. At one end is a lounge area with a comfortable sofa and arm chairs to read a book, or gaze out of the large picture window with views across the rooftops to the distant fields and Radnorshire hills. Bi-fold doors open onto a patio area for outside eating and leading to steps down to a small enclosed terraced garden with a further lower patio and BBQ.

Also on the ground floor are a cosy sitting room with dual aspect windows, a study and shower-room. Adjoining the kitchen is a useful utility room with washing machine and space for coats and shoes and access to the garden from the back door.

Upstairs are two bedrooms - a large master bedroom with super-king sized bed, a smaller double bedroom and a bathroom. We have two comfortable single trundle beds that can be placed either in the master bedroom, study, or sitting room, to accommodate children or additional adults.

Next to the house is a driveway with room for 2 cars.

About the location

Hay-on-Wye is world renowned for its literature and philosophy festivals, and its many bookshops. Its unique position on the border between England and Wales makes Hay ideal for visitors to explore and enjoy the beautiful border country and the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.

Since being declared the ‘Town of Books’ in the 60’s, Hay has become the World's largest Secondhand and antiquarian book centre. Some of the bookshops specialise whilst others carry general stock. The larger bookshops are open 363 days a year and during the summer, stay open until late evening. If you fancy watching a film, Booths Bookshop cinema, with just 48 seats, is a beautiful independent cinema showing a range of classics, blockbusters, National Theatre and Opera Live. With comfortable seats and a bar, you can sit back and relax.

Market days every Thursday, and on the first Saturday of each month, bring over 40 traders to the centre of Hay. Offering a wide range of stalls, from local produce and hot food, to artisan crafts and vintage. The recently restored and renovated Hay Castle hosts a gallery and cafe, and a calendar of cultural events.

Close to both the Black Mountains and the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), there are innumerable walks nearby, including the Offa’s Dyke path, many being accessible from the doorstep. The River Wye meanders past the edge of town about a ten minute walk from the house, and here you can enjoy a picnic or watching the kingfishers, or for the more adventurous there are opportunities for swimming, canoeing, kayaking or paddle boarding.

The nearest railway stations are Hereford or Abergavenny, each about a 45 minute drive away.
